I Give Thanks for God’s Ever-Lawful Gifts
I give thanks for God’s ever-lawful gifts because no matter what laws people may pass, those laws cannot take God’s gifts from me. No agitated, panicky legislator can hope to propose “it is illegal to love, it is illegal to be kind, or it is illegal to have joy,” and expect to find backers to enforce such irrational edicts.
I give thanks for God’s ever-lawful gifts. Practicing patience, using self-control, offering forgiveness, and encouraging others stabilizes my thoughts and emotions. These gifts reinforce my connection with family and friends. God never intended for us to be alone. If humans fail us, then the gift of relationship with Him cannot. He is unchanging, and faithful.
I give thanks for God’s ever-lawful gifts because good deeds, mercy, truth, wisdom, and responsibility actually give us options for action in this world. Though we frequently fail at making complete use of these gifts, our efforts falter. Yet failure does not condemn us to sit and watch things crumble. The attempts we make, no matter how imperfect, do bring hints of God’s kingdom that will be fully realized when Christ returns to rule as the Prince of Peace.
That rule, the hope of my day-to-day anticipation here, is the defining mark of the generous reward, future happiness, eternal life, victory, and enjoyment planned for me by the God who keeps His promises to His people, who seek Him.
Next week, we’ll be looking at the concept of a call. Also, why and how God calls people to fulfilling lives. After that, we’ll round off the theme with the advantages we hold because God’s generous gifts are irrevocable.
