Light, Protection, Favor, Honor, and All Good Things
Today, this promise on the list stood out to me: “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” That’s Psalm 84:11. (NIV) Yes, there’s an attached condition, but remember that unlike the Israelites of King David’s time, we, as believers in Christ, are credited with His righteousness.
Because God keeps all his promises, we get light.
He gives not only the light from our star, the sun, by which we see dangers, beauty in creation, and the faces of those we love, but also light in our souls. It exposes the trickery the devil tries on us, and shows God’s presence with us to others.
God is our shield, so we also get protection.
Daily, believers’ lives are spared during accidents, floods, fires, fights, and from disease. This is not to say that they don’t suffer injury, or consequences. The experience and stories they gain become important elements of their subsequent witness to family, friends, and others they meet. The armor of God secures their souls.
God is our source for lasting, ultimate, favor and honor.
As an aspiring author on social media, I have become highly conscious of how much emphasis is given to accumulating likes and followers. However, such things fluctuate day-to-day, and hour-to-hour. If I place too much importance on the scramble for social media standings, I stand the risk of emotional instability and depression, because there’ll always be someone with “more.”
I have no idea what kind of favor and honor God will give me, but because of his character, whatever reward he chooses for me will last, and be fully satisfying.
If that wasn’t enough, he also promises his people all good things.
