Being Thankful Because the Holy Spirit Gave Miracles

Being thankful because the Holy Spirit gave miracles is a wise choice. It keeps believers focused on the mighty deeds God is capable, willing, and eager to do for His people. This focus strengthens faith, and our motivation to speak about God’s care for us today.

Being thankful because the Holy Spirit gave miracles also affects the people around us. Frequently, maintaining thankfulness takes deliberate work, but it keeps our attitude hopeful. Hope is important in resilience. Together, thanks and hope open our eyes to creative solutions when difficult events disrupt the plans we make.

A favorite miracle

One of my favorite miracles in the Old Testament is a military one during the reign of king Jehoshaphat. The Moabites, Ammonites, and a third tribe gathered a coalition army, and planned to invade Judah by way of Edom. When men informed Jehoshaphat, he called for a nation-wide fast. People from every city in Judah, people of all ages, converged on the Temple courtyard to pray, worship and praise. The Levites got loud about it.

Before the army set out for the battle, early in the morning, Jehoshaphat did something unusual. He consulted the people, and recruited the Temple choir to sing praises to God for the splendor of His holiness while they led the people toward the enemy.

As the men sang, God ambushed the invaders. In the process, the army of Moab and Ammon attacked and slaughtered the third army, then turned on each other. When the people of Judah arrived, all the invaders were dead. It took three days to clear the battlefield of plunder.

Perhaps you, like Martha in the New Testament, have the gift of serving and hospitality. Maybe your favorite miracles are about the feeding of thousands. Whichever recorded miracle in scripture means the most to you, remember that all God’s miracles are for the benefit of His people.

God worked some incredibly amazing miracles in Old Testament times, and He’s still working them today. And of course, my squirrel brain just can’t resist prodding to me to ask: Do you ever wonder where all these dead people are buried? That was a lot of bodies! Wow–

I think they were left for “the birds of the air”, aka vultures. They may have become the “source” for Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of dry bones..Leg bone connected to the hip bone…

I believe God is still working miracles. We just need to open our eyes to recognize them. They most likely aren’t on such a large scale as recorded in the Bible, but they do give a reason for thanks and praise. For example, I look at the election in 2016 as a God-provided miracle for our country. Against all odds and poll results, Mr. Trump was deemed the winner. I thank God every day for our president and his hard work to save our country from socialism/communism which seems to be what was planned, had he not won election. I am very thankful! I pray every day for our country! May God continue to bless the USA!
Yes, I am thankful for the work of the Holy Spirit! For many reasons, including miracles!
