Thankful people value the knowledge God gives. By his grace, we hear the words of Wisdom. “Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. My mouth speaks what is true for my lips detest wickedness. All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold….”
This involves ongoing choices:
“…call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver, and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Thankful people value the knowledge God gives.
They discover he holds victory in store for them, and shields them. He guards their course, and protects their way. Who wouldn’t want that in this warped world?
How did it get warped?
The book of Romans pulls no punches. “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile, and their foolish hearts were darkened….Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.”
Thankful people value the knowledge God gives. What do we do because of this valuable gift? One highly effective action is intercessory prayer, prayer that asks God to help his church grow in obvious worth, pleasing him by bearing fruit in good work and increasing understanding of who God is and what he’s planning. Ask him for strength and power measured out by his might, because we need to wait here patiently and thankfully.
