Giving Thanks for Self-control

Giving thanks for self-control, even when it feels forced and obligatory, is accomplishing two mundane and obvious things tonight. First, it means I’m keeping my vow to be a thankful person, and not one who whines. Thanksgiving for other things is easier, and happier, but for now, this will do.
Gods gifts
The second obvious and mundane accomplishment is the previous paragraph, which begins this blog post. I’m keeping my word to post on a specific theme twice a week, for as long as the subject lasts. I don’t know if turning Seussian would help the topic today.

Self -control helps the moles
dig long and spacious tunnel holes…
Except it doesn’t. Moles work on instinct. They don’t need self-control.
All my instincts are telling me to write fiction, to re-direct you-who-are-reading to Don’t Blog Like Dr. Seuss, (again) and call this post quits.
But, I’m not a mole, so I don’t get to do that yet tonight. Whether you find something useful for you in the next hundred and twenty or so words I type to satisfy the length demands of Search Engine Optimization, I won’t know unless you tell me.

Because I’m human, these blog posts have varying effectiveness, and I suppose this one will bring a little reality to social media. Whether social media Wants reality, remains to be seen.
My inner Erma Bombeck tells me the prize for producing the longest, least-retweeted thread on Twitter is probably some object that would need dusting, and why would I bother?.
“Surely you desire truth in the inward parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place…Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. …Grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

I’m grateful for everyone who reads this blog on social media. However, if you fear missing out, fill in the blanks on the Subscribe form in the upper right sidebar. Posts will automatically appear in your email. When I’m out of town, I don’t connect to social media to share them there.

Keep on keeping on, Heidi. Self-control is what you are demonstrating! I’m thankful for your work ethic! It is clearly demonstrated in your writing. And we all know that persistence pays, right?
I need to demonstrate my self-control right now and get off this device and accomplish something! 😄

There is the “Do not grow tired of doing good” verse. Perhaps this blog full of words will eventually prove to have accomplished something good. I’ve always been certain that we don’t get to “count our apples”, that that’s God’s business, not ours.

Keep up the good work, Heidi! Self-control may not be popular, but it sure is important–and something I struggle with daily if not hourly. May God bless you as you persevere.
