Beauty In Mid-air at Meijer Gardens

Beauty In Mid Air At Meijer Gardens
I found beauty in mid-air at Meijer Gardens.
There’s a sculpture park and garden in my home town that has a large greenhouse. Every winter, they have a tropical butterfly release, featuring multiple species.
Usually guests jostle their way through almost elbow to elbow. Older adults seek a few hours respite from a Michigan winter. Their presence scarcely slows the enthusiastic rush as students on grade school field trips evade any teachers and chaperoning parents who attempt to corral them.

Pleasant things happen

As short as I am in the crowd, I frequently find my shots blocked by heads, elbows, and shoulders. But sometimes my camera amazes me. This shot caught beauty in mid-air at Meijer Gardens. The staff released several varieties of Postman butterflies that year.  This is one.
Just before we left, I caught a flicker of motion, aimed the camera into the shadows of a plant, and pressed the button. The flash lightened the background nicely, catching this beauty in mid-air. His antennae and coiled proboscis weren’t details I expected when I downloaded that day’s shots.
He’s almost sufficient consolation for the Blue Morpho that eluded me as my battery gave out.
